What is Key Club?

Key Club is one of the largest and oldest service organizations both in the world and at Chantilly High School. It is entirely student-led and serves as a venue for students to reach out and impact their community through service. Using the pillars of character, leadership, and service, Key Club strives to develop students to be exemplary members of society. To do this, Key Club offers over 100 service opportunities throughout the year for members to participate in. Members are also encouraged to join the leadership team and attend various conventions with the intent of building leadership and social skills. Altogether, the club provides members many opportunities to serve the community while developing relationships with many different types of people in order to help develop character from a young age.

Does Key Club log my hours for me?

While Key Club cannot submit your hours into x2vol for you, we do keep track of all your hours on the “Hours” page.

Anchor 3

How do I submit hours earned from Key Club service opportunities into x2vol?

Submitting hours from Key Club is just like submitting hours from any other service opportunity! All you have to do is submit the service opportunity into x2vol with a meaningful reflection and the email of the adult event coordinator (Make sure to confirm with the adult event coordinator, not the event staff member, of your participation at the event so that they verify your hours). If the opportunity was coordinated by Key Club (club meetings, drives, etc.), then the email you use should either be chantillykeyclub@gmail.com or the club president’s email. Forgot what events you did? Simply go to “Hours” page and click “Event Log” to check the service opportunities you were involved in.

How do I get a cord?

To earn a cord, you must earn the necessary amount of points dependent on how many years you have been a member. Members who have been in the club longer are rewarded with a lower threshold of points required each year for the cord. You can view the requirements in the “Hours” page.

How is club leadership structured?

Key Club is comprised of six different positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, and Info-Manager. The President oversees the entire club with a focus on delegating tasks and communicating with Key Club leadership. The Vice-President essentially assists the president in all their duties while carrying out the additional responsibility of overseeing the Event Staff. The Treasurer is in charge of all fundraising and financially related activities as well as overseeing the Fundraising Committee. The Secretary is the record keeper of the club, taking notes on meetings and hours of service completed and completing additional tasks as needed by the President. The Historian takes pictures of key clubbers at meetings and Key Club events and then compiles the numerous pictures taken throughout the year to make a big scrapbook. Together, the Secretary and Historian oversee the Marketing Committee to facilitate club promotion and communication. The info-managers are the backbone of the entire Key Club technological sector as they maintain Google Classroom, the website, and much more. To learn more about each position you can go to the “Leadership” page on the website and email the current officer for a more in-depth explanation.

How do I become an officer?

Becoming a Key Club officer is a serious, but rewarding position that club members can attain. Applications are opened midway through the school year and then applicants are selected to move onto the interview phase where they will be further evaluated for the desired position. With such a large club, the competition is highly competitive, although there are many ways to improve your chances! The number of points and hours you have earned plays a large factor in the selection process. Active participation in a minor leadership team (event staff, fundraising committee, marketing committee) will also boost your chances since you earn many points as well as the opportunity to show your characteristics to the current officers.

What is Event Staff? Fundraising Committee? Marketing Committee?

Event Staff, Fundraising Committee, and Marketing Committee are the three different minor leadership teams in Key Club that members can apply for as a way to impact the club by serving its members. Event Staff has 20 members, Fundraising Committee has 8 members, and the Marketing Committee has 5 members. Event Staff is the backbone of the entire club, as they find the service opportunities each month and then coordinate them for club members to participate in. They also bring in food each meeting for club members to enjoy! Fundraising Committee serves a vital role as an extension of the Treasurer, helping them raise funds for the club to use in a variety of ways including District and International Convention Fees and anything else to help improve the club. Marketing Committee serves as the bridge between the Leadership Team and club members by communicating clearly and often any important dates, events, or announcements to the entire club. Also, they maintain a focus on club outreach, recruiting new members and retaining old ones to keep Key Club strong and large.
